This project involves a biography, which is a true story about someone’s life that is written by someone else.
This project will consist of 4 parts:
1. choosing and reading the book (completing graphic organizer)
2. making a puppet
3. preparing the oral report - together during class
4. presenting your oral report to the class
1. Choosing and reading the book (April 20 - May 1):
Choose a book that is written about somebody that really interests you. I will give you the book and a graphic organizer that will help you organize your thoughts while reading your book. Complete the graphic organizer while reading. You must be finished reading the book by May 1.
2. Making a puppet (April 20 - May 19):
You will create a puppet that looks like the subject of your book, using material that you have at home. NO stick puppets or finger puppets. The requirements are:
a. Your hand must fit inside the puppet to help it move.
b. Your puppet must hold something that represents your subject.
For example, Babe Ruth can hold a baseball or bat.
c. With your parents’ permission, check online for some ideas. If you
google “how to make a puppet,” you will find a lot of
information.
d. Be creative! Please do NOT simply use a sharpie on a sock or
paper bag. Do NOT go out shopping for materials. Use what
you have at home.
e. Your effort counts!
3. Preparing your oral report (May 1- May 12):
-
We will write the oral report together in class. Please do NOT write it ahead of time.
-
Practice reading/presenting your oral report many times.
4. Presenting your oral report (using puppet) to class on May 19: Requirements:
a. You will pretend to be the subject of your book (you will speak in 1st
person)
b. Only your puppet will be visible on the screen.
c. You may read your oral report, but I expect that you would have
practiced many times so you sound fluent and well prepared.
You will be graded on your graphic organizer, your puppet, and your oral report (the written version and your oral presentation of it).
